Two weeks ago we went up a logging trail Mike was curious about. So we packed a few snacks and headed east (well, I think it was east, I was yacking Mike's ear off about something important and not really paying attention) and we stumbled on a great swimming spot this summer! We walked around this little river area and it was so much fun. Hunter was a big fan of throwing rocks in the river. It was raging pretty hard with all the snow melt, but we found some shallow spots that should be fun on a hot summer day.
A little further down the road we found a cool old bridge and more swimming holes. We had a great time getting some fresh air and walking around a bit!
The next weekend I spent a good chunk of it on my paper (which was in a preview post and I hope you all thoroughly enjoyed it), so one morning we decided to go on a hike. We have heard people go on this hike a lot, which is only about 30 miles west of town, so we thought we would check it out.
Hunter loves to ride in the back pack!
So fun! And it was a gorgeous day! There were a couple of snakes. :( I saw one not long after this picture. I only shot about 20 feet in the air instead of my usual 40 because Hunter was weighing me down a little. I hate snakes! After that, for the rest of the hike, I could here Hunter "hissing" in my ear - he was a snake now. Naturally. I also had a really steep part to climb over, which isn't easy with a 40lb two-year old on my back, but I did it, even though the entire time he kept saying "Daddy, help! Help!" Thanks for the support Bud! LOL.
Little did I know that after the hike you pop out ON TOP of the water fall! Yikes! I quickly back-stepped a little, where a nice lady was sitting and did the same thing. LOL. Mike was fine going out close to the ledge, so I told him to take pictures so I could see it.
...looks pretty huh?
On the way back we stopped and rested, and Hunter wanted to stick his toes in the water.
BRRR!
Hunter loves to squish bugs and things - such a boy. Anyway, on the hike back we found a spot full of butterflies! He was so excited! Be sure to turn it way up, and yes, that is him spitting at them....
Whew, Mike packed him back out!
Well, he lasted 5 minutes in the car. Just long enough to have a drink and some Goldfish. It is hard riding on our backs!
The next day we were out again, but this time on another trail. Mike had heard there were some mushrooms up this way to pick, so of course we had to go look. We didn't find any mushrooms, but Hunter pointed out tons of deer and elk. Lol. I told Mike that he needed to take him hunting and to be his new scout, because "deer" and "ek" are all over the woods.
CHEESE! Every time after this he ran on top of a pile of dirt he would stand all proud and yell cheese, so cute!!
We had a great couple of weekends just getting out and exploring nature. We do it often and are so excited that summer is here now. Makes it a lot more fun! Plus, for the next 2 weeks I am on break from school, so now I can do it without having a big black cloud hanging over my head called homework!!
