Checking kitchen off the list...

Doesn't it seem like we have been posting pictures and talking about the kitchen remodel forever? Oh wait, we have! A year and a half ago, when Mike and I decided to remodel our kitchen, I am glad we didn't know what we were getting into, because we might not have done it!! :) So much work! Demo'ing, moving and re-routing a furnace and water heater while installing a heat pump at the same time, tiling until we couldn't see straight...and the list goes on! But we are finally there! Well, close enough that we are saying done for now! Here are some before and after pics.
Before

After
It was dark before I could take these pictures, so the lighting isn't great. But it has made a world of difference knocking out that wall. Too bad it led to other big projects, like re-routing the water heater, furnace, etc. But it is worth it! It makes the whole front room so much bigger!

Before
This is the inside of the island.
After
We added in countertop trim, made holes for drawers and put in shelves, painted and finished putting in the electrical outlets. Still need to do the drawers and cabinet doors...but I think Mike will wait until spring when it is warmer outside to do that woodwork.

This is one of my favorite parts! Mike did an AWESOME job on the door. And look at all the storage!
Other side!
That's right, those are sliding drawers! Oh yeah, and all of my canning from last summer. (thanks Mom again for helping...from the looks of things we probably don't need to can any this summer!)
Before...I think we have come a long way! Who ever thought avocado was a nice color for appliances???
After
It has been a long process, but totally worth it. We have done all the work ourselves and Mike has really done an amazing job. Lately it has been so great to have Mike home and he has been working so hard to do all the finishing touches. He has done a great job and I am so proud of him.
I don't know about you, but looking at those old pics of the kitchen just made me tired...I think I better go pour Mike and I a glass of wine...we deserve it! Cheers!
